Inspired by some of Dylan Thomas' visionary prose and poetry, this is an attempt to conjure an image of decadence that was first born of a desire just to be 'happy', but loses control and spirals. It takes the form of a bacchanalean feast, where we are over-stuffed with pleasure and even time is in inebriate slumber ("With bloated hearts/And sleeping clocks"). But we can't stop ("We beg for more/'tween ticks and tocks"), even though this cannot ultimately satisfy ("With no chance to rest/With no cause to dream"). We continue to destroy ourselves and those we love ("Oh bed of nests") and almost wilfully and murderously ("So take each love/Drop from great height/And rest each bird/No song or flight"). This then becomes the pattern for our behaviour, with no meaning ("And over time/ It lost its name") and no restraint for its gathering pace ("And quickened much/Much more to take").
